"Dr. Alden
Sprague came to Little Rock about 1831. He was born at Bedford,
New Hampshire, February 3, 1800, graduated in the medical department of
Dartmouth College. In the summer of 1832 he published in the
Gazette a series of articles entitled "On the Diseases of Arkansas," the
first appearing in the issue of June 27, 1832. He was probably the
first Arkansas physician to analyze the conditions and make known the
facts. In 1835 he was one of the committee to prepare a petition
to the Legislature asking for the incorporation of Little Rock as a
city, and he was at one time grand master of the Masonic fraternity in
the state. He dies at Little Rock on April 26, 1847."Source:
