The first settlement in Clark County was at present Arkadelphia, along the Caddo, and south of the Caddo and west of Arkadelphia in vicinity of Okolona.

Hignight was an early settler.  "The latter was a great hunter, and probably killed more buffalo than any other settler.  Near Mr. Hignight's place was a 'buffalo lick,' which those animals frequently visited, and there fell prey to Hignight...and other early settlers."

Hignight's place was located on the road to Washington, Arkansas.
