HISTORICAL NOTE

Charles Brashear, English-Scott-Cherokee descent, retired in 1982 after thirty years of teaching Creative Writing.  After earning his PH.D from Denver University in 1962 he taught three years at the University of Stockholm, three years at the University of Michigan, and twenty-four years at San Diego State University.  Brashear’s two major interests are history and fiction.  He has numerous publications in periodicals and has published several book-length works, including Developing Creativity (Spring Valley, CA:  Helix House, 1974; The Vision Quest of Charlie Stonecrist (Marvin, SD:  Blue Cloud Quarterly, 1976); and A Snug Little Purchase: How Richard Henderson Bought Kaintuckee from the Cherokees in 1775 (La Mesa, CA:  Associated Creative Writers 1979).  In 1992 Brashear became a full-time writer.  He now lives in Clear Lake Oaks, California.  The collection consists of drafts of his novel Killing Cynthia Ann  (Fort Worth:  Texas Christian University Press, 1999).

DESCRIPTION OF THE COLLECTION

The Charles Brashear Collection contains correspondence and drafts of “Killing Cynthia Ann,” which show the evolution of the novel.  Materials cover the period of 1994 to 2002.
